Nutrition and Weight Loss
Profile:
I started my career as a nurse’s aide in a nursing home. Early on I discovered the benefit taking care of ourselves and the role nutrition and fitness plays in this process. My education continued in college as I attained my degree in Registered Nursing. For years I worked in the hospital as a peri-operative nurse involved in the care of complex surgical patients. This would include administering nutrition by feeding tubes. While working as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse, I cared for premature babies with delayed development. In these tiny patients, receiving the proper nutrients by feeding tubes and intravenously was vital for their very survival. As a mother of six children I had the opportunity to be the school nurse for a large pre-school. Organizing health and immunization records and working with food allergies provided another perspective to my interest in health and wellness. I now work with patients who have struggled with their weight for many years. These patients need to lose weight to improve their health and perhaps decrease their dependence on prescription medications. I find this aspect of my position to be very rewarding. It is the ability and knowledge I want to give my patients to prevent the disease processes that I have spent most of my career helping physicians treat.
